RAIN DISASTER RELIEF CAMPS- VAIKOM MUNICIPALITY
During periods of heavy rainfall and rain-related emergencies in August 2026 , Vaikom Municipality makes arrangements to ensure the safety and temporary shelter of residents affected by flooding, waterlogging and other rain-related disasters. As part of the disaster management and relief measures, three disaster relief camps were conducted in schools within the Municipality. The camps were established at 1. TKMM UP School Camp, 2. West Madiyathra School Camp, and 3. Aiyyerkulangara UP School Camp.
These relief camps provided safe accommodation and essential support to people who were required to evacuate their homes due to adverse weather conditions. The camps also served as important centres for coordinating relief activities and ensuring the basic needs, safety and well-being of affected residents during rain-related emergencies. Necessary arrangements were made for food, drinking water, sanitation, basic medical assistance and other essential requirements of the people staying in the camps.
The successful functioning of these relief camps was made possible through the active cooperation and support of ward councillors from both the ruling and opposition groups. The councillors played an important role in coordinating local relief activities, identifying affected families and extending necessary assistance to the people accommodated in the camps. Vaikom MLA Sri. K. Binimon also extended valuable support and assistance to the relief camps and the affected residents.
The coordinated efforts of the Vaikom Municipality, ward councillors, elected representatives, officials, volunteers and local community helped ensure the effective management of the disaster situation and provided timely support and relief to the affected people. These efforts reflect the Municipality's commitment to disaster preparedness, community participation and the protection and welfare of residents during natural calamities.
