Ward Sabha is an important participatory platform in the functioning of a Localbody, through which local residents directly participate in the planning and development process of the Municipality. Vaikom Municipality has 27 wards, and Ward Sabhas are conducted in each ward to ensure people's participation in local governance.

The Ward Sabha provides an opportunity for residents to identify local needs, discuss development priorities, suggest projects and programmes, and review the implementation of ongoing development activities. The suggestions and recommendations emerging from the Ward Sabhas serve as an important input for the preparation of the Municipality's Annual Development Plan and various development programmes.

Ward Sabhas also facilitate discussions on matters relating to basic infrastructure, roads, drinking water, sanitation, waste management, public health, education, social welfare, housing and other local development requirements. They help identify the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged sections of society and support the formulation of inclusive development programmes.

Thus, the 27 Ward Sabhas of Vaikom Municipality form a key foundation for participatory planning and decentralized governance, strengthening transparency, accountability and people's involvement in the development of the Municipality.
